Being in college is one of the best times especially for the ladies. There is freedom, and this is the time when one can make poor health choices. Among the most neglected health is reproductive health when one is in college yet this is a crucial part of one’s health.
Tips to keep your vagina healthy
One should take breaks from their most loved silky lingerie. Sometimes all it takes to have a healthy vagina is wearing a cotton pant. College also makes it easy for one to wear legging and tights almost all the time. This makes moisture to be trapped around the vaginal area. Besides that, silk and lace may cause irritation and chaffing since they do not absorb moisture. More specifically, one can use white cotton pants since they do not have dyes which may have harmful side effects like irritation. One should also wear cotton pants when working out so that it will absorb the sweat unlike pants made of nylon and Lycra.
Razor blades help in keeping the area around the vagina hair free. However, most people forget to replace their razor blades just the way most people forget replacing their toothbrushes. This causes the razor to harbor different kinds of bacteria which may cause infections when used in that state and one accidentally cuts themselves. The razors should be replaced regularly, and one should avoid shaving during their period.
This is because during the periods one is prone to razor bumps and they can easily develop rashes. If one finds it inconvenient to keep replacing the razor, then one can put their used one under a drier so that it does not rust. They can also return its cap on if it is not in use. Always remember to store the razor in a dry area away from moisture.
One should ensure that they increase their intake of probiotics. These are found in foods such as yogurt which has live cultures which benefit the vagina. This may be more stressed when one is taking antibiotics since they tend to wipe out all the bacteria including the good ones. Adding these probiotics to the diet help in keeping one’s system balanced and also strengthens the body’s defense system from illnesses. Other foods rich in probiotics are kefir, kombucha among other fermented foods. One may also opt to take probiotics supplements.
If one has to use tampons, they should not be scented since the scent may act as an irritant to the vagina which may cause itching. Scented tampons may cause swelling and infections of the vagina. The scents and the perfumes used in such products may alter the natural pH of the vagina. When it comes to any products to be used around the vaginal area, they should be plain and simple to reduce chances of infections. Such lifestyle changes usually go a long way in ensuring that one has a healthy vagina.
These changes are not hard to make while one is in College since they do not need a lot of money when compared to treatment should one get sick.
